Here is an example of the work DTM does when it comes to character development. All art is custom designed on the spot. No clip-art, no outsourcing. All hand drawn by the one and only: DTM.
Let me walk you thru the steps.
All character development begins with a series of sketches to determine the look and feel of each character. I take direction from the ideas of the client, some ideas are in words, some ideas are in examples of what they want.
After the sketches come some hard decisions on the direction of the character. We try to establish the size, dimensions and proportions of the character. This becomes the template to all character renderings moving forward.
The first working pose is chosen and sketched. Once the character creator approves the drawing, the next step is to render in a vector format.
The vector illustration begins and it follows the same design as the sketch. Most vector illustrators use Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw to design their vector illustrations. Vector is a file format necessary to give the client options in printing sizes while retaining the best possible resolution. I work with Adobe Illustrator.
I present the character creator with the work in progress design to double check that I am moving in the right direction. Some of the colors and details are now coming into place.
Once the client approves the final product, I add a little extra creativity to make the image and character jump!
Remember that for the best results, hire a true professional. DTM is the best in the biz!
